It has been far too long since I have been able to give any time to this experiment and I don't have long tonight.
Two weeks ago with great anger and pain and frustration, I began a post addressing my feelings about the tragic hurricane and subsequent tragic breakdown of our government at ALL levels in response. It was about 1000 words before something happened and I lost the whole post. it's just as well, I guess. It was vitriolic and accusatory and generally unproductive escept that it made me feel better.
The tragedy on the gulf coast has made for several good discussions in class. As has our exploration of the Constitution of the U.S. and of Brave New World, which we are nearly finished with. The first rogress reports went out on Friday and far too many of my students are lacking. In fairness we haven't had a lot of graded assignments so any that are missed or blown are weighted pretty heavily atthis point. We will fix it.
these kids are excedingly bright if somewhat unconfident in their intellectual powers. It is fun when they start thinking though. Frankly, I enjoy our discussions a little too much and they know it, trying to get me off topic at every opportunity and thus preventing the examination of things we really need to look into.
Anyway, things in America are difficult right now for far too many of us. And far too easy for the wrong few. Things are great in school, though always a more of a challenge than I really feel absolutely confident with.
I have been on the bike some. Red River last week with Bristols, Burkstallers, Sandovals and Mike Carpenter. It was a great hit and run. We did the 88 miles instead of the full century but I'm riding well and it was absolutely fantastic to see all y great friends.
Bedtime.
